Skarø
Step ashore on Skarø, a small island where open seascapes and village life meet at the entrance to the Svendborgsund.

Skarø is a low moraine island at the mouth of the Svendborgsund, partly protected by dikes and the narrow spit known as Skarø Rev. The landscape reflects both Ice Age and post-Ice Age processes, with salt marshes, beach ridges and marine forelands, as well as a small cliff of Weichselian moraine clay on the west coast.
Skarø By lies close to the harbour and features half-timbered houses gathered around the village pond. Skarø Church stands on the island’s highest point, offering views across the archipelago. Footpaths across fields and along the coast make it easy to explore the island on foot or by bicycle.
At Skarø Cemetery, the graves of two British airmen mark events from the Second World War, when an aircraft crashed near the island in 1944. Today, Skarø also offers cultural activities, crafts, a small museum, a marina, and opportunities for camping, shelters and cabin stays near the harbour.
